An interesting contemporary cast imitation

Maximinus II, as Caesar, 305-309. Follis (Bronze, 23 mm, 4.87 g, 12 h), a contemporary cast imitation, after 309. MAXIMINVS NOB CAES Helmeted and cuirassed bust of Maximinus II to left, holding spear over his right shoulder and shield decorated with two horsemen riding to left, four enemies below them; on cuirass, gorgoneion. Rev. SOLI IN-VICTAE / B / ANT Sol, radiate, standing front in spread quadriga, head to left, raising his right hand and holding globus in his left. Cf. RIC 145b (for prototype). Good fine.

From an American collection, formed before 2005.

Imitations such as this one were cast in terracotta forger's moulds produced by pressing genuine pieces in clay.
